How We Grow Our Mushrooms
At The Grey Caps Delights, we use proven, sustainable methods to cultivate premium grey oyster mushrooms. Our process combines traditional knowledge with modern organic farming techniques.
Substrate Preparation

What is substrate?
Substrate is the growing medium that provides nutrients for mushroom growth. We use agricultural waste materials like straw, cotton husks, sawdust, and wheat bran, turning waste into valuable resources.

Our process:
We source clean, chemical-free agricultural materials.
- Materials are pasteurized to eliminate competing organisms.
- Substrate is enriched with natural nutrients.
- Everything is prepared in clean, controlled conditions.

Inoculation
Introducing the mushroom spawn:
Once our substrate is ready, we introduce grey oyster mushroom spawn (mushroom "seeds"). This is done in a sterile environment to ensure healthy colonization.
Quality control:
We use high-quality mushroom spawn from trusted suppliers
- Every batch is monitored for healthy growth
- Temperature and humidity are carefully controlled
Incubation
Conditions:
Temperature: 20-25°C
- High humidity: 80-90%
- Low light
- Good air circulation
Duration: 2-3 weeks
The growing begins:
After inoculation, bags are placed in our incubation area where the mushroom mycelium (the "roots") spread throughout the substrate.
Fruiting

When mushrooms appear:
Once colonization is complete, we move bags to our fruiting area where conditions trigger mushroom formation.

Fruiting conditions:
Fresh air introduction
- Natural or artificial light
- Maintained humidity
- Temperature: 18-22°C

Harvest
Peak freshness:
We harvest mushrooms at the perfect moment, when caps are fully formed but still tender. This ensures maximum flavor, nutrition, and shelf life.
Harvesting:
Done by hand with care
- Mushrooms are gently twisted at the base
- Harvested in the morning for best quality
- Multiple flushes (harvests) from each bag
Quality Check & Packaging
Before delivery:
Every mushroom is inspected for quality. We package immediately after harvest to maintain freshness.
Packaging:
Breathable containers that maintain freshness
- Minimal packaging to reduce waste
- Clear labeling with harvest date
- Delivered within 24 hours of harvest
Timeline: First mushrooms appear within 5-7 days
